Water Heater Leaks
Water Heater Leaks in Boise, ID
Water heater dripping, leaking from the bottom or emptied onto the floor? Close the cold-water valve, then call and you're connected with an independent restoration contractor in Boise.

A slow leak does more damage than it looks
Water heaters often fail slowly. A drip from the bottom of the tank can soak the subfloor, the bottom plate of the closet walls or the drywall behind it for weeks before anyone notices. When a tank does let go, it releases its whole contents and keeps refilling until the supply is shut off.
Close the cold-water supply valve on top of the heater, or the main shut-off. For a gas heater, set it to off or pilot; for an electric one, switch off its breaker. Then the replacement needs a plumber and the water needs a restoration contractor.
Good to know
Permit
Installing or replacing a water heater in Boise needs a plumbing permit (PDS homeowner guide).
Closets and stacks
Heaters in interior closets can leak into the rooms on either side. Ask for moisture checks there too.
Garage floors
Concrete dries quickly; drywall and stored boxes don't. Move belongings off the wet floor.
Photos and dates
The tank's label and the damage help any later conversation with your insurer.

Questions
Common questions
Is a leaking water heater an emergency?
A slow drip isn't, but it needs attention soon. Water pouring from the tank or the connections is: shut off the supply and the power or gas straight away.
Will insurance cover the water damage?
Many policies treat a sudden failure differently from a slow leak. Your insurer is the one to ask.
Who installs the new heater?
A licensed plumber. Idaho plumbing licensees don't need separate contractor registration for work within their license (DOPL).
